Meet The Team

Qualified Professionals and Pet Lovers Alike

All of our staff are trained to the highest standards and as importantly, have a real passion for animal care.

All staff are pet first aid trained and certified and receive ongoing continuing professional development training to ensure the highest standards of care for your pets and you as their owners. Both owners Maureen and I (Julie) play an active daily part in the care of the animals and have a very hands on approach. We are proud of our animal care staff and service and so wanted to share some of our senior staff members background and history with you below.

Julie Adams – Owner/Director

Originally I worked as a Transformation Director and Consultant around the world helping government departments and companies improve services and operations. My passion for animals and animal welfare was always something I wanted to end up working on full time. When my partner and I saw C Four Paws Hotel we recognised somewhere that could provide something very different to owners and animals. We gave up the salaries and the life we knew and invested everything we had to embark upon our business to create something truly different for animals and owners. I passionately believe that care is about psychological as well as physical health and so spending time with animals, giving lots of hugs, playtime and the odd night night treat are truly important.

I particularly pride ourselves on our service and the team that provide it with us, who are all experienced and full time staff members. This is genuinely our passion and our dream and we are sure you will feel that in the care and service we provide.

Outside of giving animals in our care a great time we also have quite a menagerie of our own. We have four dogs of our own; Oscar is our old border terrier cross jack russell, Leo is our Doberman, Dudley is our British Bulldog and Archie is our young jack russell terrier. We also have three cats, Tiggr, Morgan and Dexter. You may meet or indeed ask to see some of them when you come to see us.

Maureen Adams – Owner/Director

Originally I worked as a Physiotherapist and in NHS Management. However, Julie and I always had a passion for animals and sought for years to find the right place and business to translate that passion into a business that provided a real step change in care for pets and owners. A lot of the rigour of my NHS training in recording keeping and holistic care has been translated into the processes we use in caring for animals in a safe but enriching environment. It also reflects in the care we provide for pets that require any medication regimes or injections while they are in our care.

I’m also passionate about ensuring our staff are the very best in order to provide the care standard we want. To ensure this we maintain ongoing mentoring, development and training so that we continue to improve on what we and they can provide for you and your pet as a customer.

Julie has already mentioned our menagerie at the house which makes my office space very different in a great way and when you speak to us over the phone you may well hear one or more of them barking. I look forward to meeting you in person or talking to you over the phone.

Kate Vickers

From a very young age, I have had a strong passion for animals. My first memories involving animals are of our family pet, Sally who was an English setter. Throughout the years I have had rabbits, guinea pigs, birds and fish as well as dogs. I currently have a jack russell cross westie called Toby, who we rescued 13yrs ago, a rabbit, a tortoise, a number of geckos (crested & leopard) and toffee, my hamster who is bizarrely a rescue pet abandoned at Calagran Four Paws Hotel.

I have worked hard towards a career in animal care and carried out a number of courses to reach my goal. I have gained a level 3 extended Diploma in Animal Management; a level 2 Diploma in Animal care; a level 1 in Land-based Studies anf graduated with a distinction in each and every one of the above qualifications. In addition I also hold a level 2 Diploma in dog grooming.

I have worked at other kennels previously but decided to join Calagran Four Paws Hotel because I could use all my skills because of the diversity of the services they offer to customers. It was also clear that everyone had a passion here for providing the very best care and attention to all the animals and the owners a like. I spend a lot of my time outside of cleaning and feeding ensuring all the animals get lots of walks in our great off leash play park and of course along with all my colleagues that they get lots of love and cuddles while they are with us

Lynn Russell – Office Manager

I’ve been an animal lover since I can remember and was happiest helping my grandfather on his small holding from a very young age. I grew up around farms and I’ve enjoyed working with and caring for dogs, cats, horses, sheep, cattle, goats, and various fowl. I currently share my home with three Jack Russell Terriers, these being Lily, Jack and Pippy. I also own a Welsh Mountain Pony called Cloud and a big Highland Pony, Joseph, who I spend most of my free time with training for dressage.

My career after university has mainly been with the emergency services, then more recently I’ve worked in the hospitality industry. When the opportunity to work at Calagran Four Paws Hotel arose I was delighted to use my experience to work with a team dedicated to the highest level of animal care. Although most of my day is office based, I always take time to see our boarders and liaise with the team caring for our residents. You will also find me out and about sometimes helping with pick up and drop off our guests to and from home.

I look forward to meeting you and your furry family either at our pet hotel or providing any help I can by phone or email, before, after or during your pets stay with us.

Kelly Goodwin – Manager

I’ve always had a passion for working with animals, but my first proper taster was when I was 15 on my school work experience, which I enjoyed so much I carried it on during school holidays. After completing a degree at university I have worked full time in a kennel environment for the last 14 years (since 2001) in both boarding and full quarantine facilities.

I have my own dog, a Border Collie called Denver who I absolutely adore more than words can say, so can fully understand how it feels to have to leave precious pets while holidaying, especially for the first time. Anything that can be done to make the experience a happy one will be done, be it from extra cuddles to special treats, and that’s just the owners!

Seriously though I believe that nothing is too much trouble for our furry guests, who are always treated as if they’re our own. I always look forward to coming into work each day. Admittedly it can be hard work at times especially when the weather is against us, but no day is ever the same, and all of the different personalities and quirks of all of our animal guests constantly make me smile. To me it’s not work, it’s babysitting with added fur!

Nicola Clark

I’ve been working with animals in a kennels environment for over eight years following my passion for animals and providing great animal care. I studied at Broomfield Hall, part of the Derby College gaining my level 2 and my level 3 National Advanced Extended Diploma in Animal Care and Grooming gaining distinctions at both levels.

My love for animals has been life long and as you would expect extends beyond work to home as well. At home I have three dogs of my own who are Jess, a Jack Russell Terrier, Bella, a Dachshund and our latest arrival who is Bella’s beautiful son, Dave. There is nothing like going home to furry hugs!

I really enjoy going the extra mile for dogs and their owners. It’s really important to me that owners know that myself and all the team will take care of their dogs like our own while they are with us. We want to give the animals a nice holiday as well while here and with digital radios, hammock beds and a doggy play park it’s not difficult to see why they have a great time and that makes for a rewarding place to work. My favourite parts of the job are cuddling and making sure all dogs feel loved and getting them out in the off leash paddock and giving them a great time with their favourite toy or toys.

I look forward to meeting all our guests, human and furry, and delivering our very own brand of love and hugs en-suite.

Vicky Higginbottom

I have loved and owned dogs all my life, and as soon as I had the opportunity at just 15 years old I took a Saturday job at a top Kennels and Cattery in Cheshire, working here I learnt a lot of new skills, such as animal nutrition, dog grooming and styling, animal care and customer service. Since then I’ve had well over decade working in animal care in kennel and grooming environments.

I took my NVQ in customer care, animal care & nutrition and grooming and attended many in house training courses. After several years as a Kennels Assistant and Groomer, I moved into grooming full time, as head groomer in a busy Greater Manchester salon. This eventually led to my running my own successful mobile grooming business. However, my heart is animal care and I love working directly with dogs ‘on their holiday’.

I volunteer for various animal rescues around the country, whether it be donations, home checks or transport runs. It’s so important to treat every animal you are responsible for as you would your own. I know just how hard it is when you are wondering whether a ‘kennel’ is the best environment for your dog/s, but it’s more than that, it’s a holiday for your pet too! I’ll do my best to make your baby’s stay as comfortable as I can, keep the same routines, the same attention and comforts, I want them to be happy as much as you do!

I’m a huge lover of all animals, to the extent I run my own rescue from home for neglected or abandoned guinea pigs. I also own 5 rescue dogs, a Bichon Frise, a collie cross, a Rhodesian ridgeback cross, a Chihuahua cross, and most recently my little girl Poppy from Romania. I also have 4 rats, 2 rabbits and a budgie. I don’t do it by halves as you can see, it’s all or nothing with me, and that’s what the customer gets too!
